Steven splits his time between homes in the U.S. and the U.K., and for the past two years — a pace he expects to keep up for at least the next two — has spent roughly half of every year traveling. Over the past decade that's added up to more than 20 countries, from regular return visits to favorites across Western and Eastern Europe to stops in Australia, India, and Singapore.

He prefers travel that looks less like sightseeing and more like living somewhere for a while — often through home exchanges rather than hotels — and gear gets tested the same way: packed, used, and put through real trips before it earns a spot on this site. Despite all the ground covered, his own bucket list still has some very close-to-home gaps — Hawaii and Alaska are both still unvisited.
